The Most Basic Podcasting Setup
I was recently asked by my mother what the simplest podcasting setup would be. I would start with a Zoom H1. This device is convenient becuase it can record stereo audio with each channel being pulled from one of the two built-in microphones. It runs on Micro-SD cards and those are nice and cheap and 2 gigs should be plenty for early days. The device might even come with 2 gigs when you buy it new. I can’t remember.
These can be found on Amazon (LINK) and the new model (H1n) has a couple of improvements that make it better than the model pictured right.
The device is battery operated and you can place it down on a table, press record and just start talking. It should be noted that it eats through batteries pretty quickly. So, if you have any sense, you should plug it into the wall. I’ve had plenty of bad experiences with Zooms burning down rechargable batteries insanely fast. You’re welcome to try but I would not rely on rechargables as my only source of power, especially if I were on the road or working for a client.
